Privacy Policy & POPIA Notice
Lesedi Legal Chambers is committed to protecting your personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA). This notice explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.
Information we collect
We collect the personal information you choose to give us: your name, phone number, email address and the description of your matter submitted through our consultation booking system; the practice area and answers you provide in the case evaluation tool; your email address when you request a downloadable guide or subscribe to our newsletter; and any details you send us by email or WhatsApp. We also collect limited technical information (device type, pages viewed) through cookies to keep the site working and improve it.
Why we process it
We process your information to respond to enquiries, assess and schedule consultations, match you with an appropriate attorney, deliver requested guides and updates, comply with our professional obligations under the Legal Practice Act and FICA, and improve our website. We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for automated decision-making that has legal consequences for you.
How it is stored and secured
Information is stored on access-controlled systems and, where relevant, in our secure client file management system. Access is limited to attorneys and staff who need it for your matter. We retain enquiry data for up to 24 months and client file data for the period required by law and professional rules, after which it is securely destroyed.
Sharing
We share information only where necessary: with counsel, correspondents, experts or the courts in the conduct of your matter; with service providers who host our systems under confidentiality obligations; or where the law requires it. Communications with us in the course of a legal matter are additionally protected by legal professional privilege.
